Museum Mile Run

Today's evening run brought to you by Museum Mile.

A lovely stretch of Fifth Avenue peppered with museums and beautiful architecture.
And today, lots of orthodox Jews out and about on their passover holiday.
(Should've taken a picture, didn't want to be disrespectful.)

Here are some of the sights I enjoyed on my way home from work today.

There are many more museums that I am unaware of. Someday we should visit them all.

our last day in DC, or a bunch of random photos

It's hard to find words to describe the Holocaust Museum. But here are a few:
Disturbing. Moving. Educational. Horrifying. Life-changing.

After that we hit the Museum of Natural History.

We stopped by the National Archives to see the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, Magna Carta, etc.
It was incredible! I felt like I was in National Treasure.





And then we collected our bags and hopped on the bus back to NYC! What a fun trip we had, just the two of us. I didn't realize what a great thing it would be for us to get away together. We're definitely going to make mini vacations more of a priority from now on.

free friday at the moma

One of the things on our must-do list was the MoMA. We took advantage of the free admission on Friday night and wandered around the museum for a couple hours. Sara and Klane probably appreciated it more than Mike and I, since they know about good design and Sara has studied art. For me it was cool to see everything and to expand the way I think about art. There are a lot of things in there that you wouldn't think of as art, but when you think about it and notice the way it's designed or the concept the artist had, you can see the art in it.

Mike's reaction to a lot of the modern art. I can't say I totally disagree.

Before the security guard yelled at me to "STEP AWAY FROM THE PAINTING, MA'AM." because when I pointed at it he thought I was going to touch it. (I wasn't. I'm not stupid.)

boys vs girls

Yesterday we split up. The girls spent some quality time shopping and eating cupcakes (Butter Lane). Sara got chocolate cake with coconut frosting, I got banana cake with cinnamon frosting. That place never ceases to disappoint. We then wandered around Midtown shopping, and found some great deals. The boys bonded while viewing war paraphernalia on the USS Intrepid. It was a good call to split up since we all had a great time, and neither pair was very interested in participating in the others' activity. :) The boys had the camera, so here are some pics.

museum day: the met

After grabbing some pizza on the UWS, we walked across the park to go to the Met. That place is absolutely ginormous. It is huge. You could get lost in there. You could spend days and still not see everything. What we did see, we liked. Mike's favorite were the suits of armor, helmets, swords, etc dating way back to the 12th-16th century. Sara's favorite were the European paintings. I don't know what my favorite was, it was just a really cool place.
