Museum Mile Run

Today's evening run brought to you by Museum Mile.

A lovely stretch of Fifth Avenue peppered with museums and beautiful architecture.
And today, lots of orthodox Jews out and about on their passover holiday.
(Should've taken a picture, didn't want to be disrespectful.)

Here are some of the sights I enjoyed on my way home from work today.

The Frick Collection

The Met

The Guggenheim

The Jewish Museum

There are many more museums that I am unaware of. Someday we should visit them all.

riverside park

I went running here this morning. I found these pictures of it on Meg's blog today. I definitely want to go back soon to take some photos of my own. It's a beautiful place. You may recognize the garden from this famous scene in You've Got Mail. I thought it looked familiar when I ran through it...

weekend, i prefer the weekend

I really like Fridays around here lately. Yesterday I enjoyed the most gorgeous run in the park; the early morning temperature is cool and perfect. And on Fridays Klane and I both only work till about 2:00. Then we get to meet up, ride home and spend the afternoon together. I love it. Things are just better when Klane's around. Yesterday we were having so much fun playing games on the train home that we missed our stop and ended up at 145th street before we even noticed.

Klane usually has work, aside from DDB stuff, which he does at home on his own time. Website design, mostly. This is a familiar sight:

I often decide the best form of entertainment during moments like this is baking something equally naughty and delicious. Things are getting a little out of hand; in the last ten days I've made blueberry muffins, peanut butter cookies, peanut butter bars, blueberry coffee cake, and then today, fudge brownies. (They're for the Sunday school kids, okay?)

Given the above list, it may surprise you that I actually do not have a goal to gain 100 pounds or have five cavities by the end of the year. It should also be noted that on Friday it was 90 degrees with 95% humidity, so heating up the apartment with the oven is really not that smart. I need a new hobby. It's just that I find these tempting recipes and they nag at me and I can't get them out of my head and I have to make them.

Thank goodness Klane still has time to spend with me. Last night when he got back from scouts, we watched Moonwalker in honor of the recently deceased King of Pop, which was random and creepy and thoroughly entertaining. I feel more culturally well-rounded now that I can say I've seen it. This morning we shared an awesome run. We changed it up and ran along the Hudson and it was just gorgeous. We were unfamiliar with the trail and so ended up running a lot farther than planned, but we knew that eventually we would come upon these fountains at 125th street where we'd get to cool off:

The last time we visited this spot, the eight-year-old in me wanted to get completely drenched, but we were going to dinner and had to act like adults. Today at the end of our run I got my wish. We both got sufficiently soaked playing in the fountains, then walked home with squishy shoes.

running in the park

One of the things on my mom's to do list was running in Central Park. So we did! And also took breaks for pictures. Excuse the sweaty shine on my face.

i like the park. quite a lot.

I went running yesterday morning on this path. It was gorgeous and sunny with a cool breeze, and there were lots of people out enjoying the good weather. So beautiful! I will be back.

we showed cancer who's boss

The Rex Lee Run is an annual event for my family and the office. By running we donate to cancer research.

This year was extra special because my mom was back in the race. Last year she sat on the sidelines because she was in the middle of chemotherapy.

She showed cancer who's boss. She placed second in her age division yesterday. I'm so grateful for my mom.

And for this handsome guy who runs by my side and likes being silly with me.

I'm also grateful for Magleby's Fresh and their wonderful french toast. Thanks dad!

we DID IT!

Yes it's true: after months of training, Klane and I - along with his mom Kaylene and sister Lynsie - ran 13.1 miles today in the Top of Utah Half Marathon. It was amazing! Last night was sort of like Christmas Eve, I woke up like 5 times because I was too excited to sleep and also worried that we would oversleep and miss the race. But we made it there and then the run went great. The last 1.5 mile I was chanting "We can do this! We can do this!" over and over but we made it, and in less than two hours, which was my goal. My wonderful parents were so supportive and drove all the way to Logan to watch us cross the finish line. Klane's dad Dave also came up with us Friday night, and our good friends Bryce and Michelle came this morning to see us finish! (We didn't get a picture with them, dang it!) It meant so much to me that they all came to support us. After the run we showered off and went to Maddox in Brigham City for a very delicious and well-earned meal. It was a great day! It was fun to make a road trip out of it, but we all agreed that if we do another race like this we'll try to do one a little closer to home.

Klane and I about to cross the finish line and we're HAPPY!

My sweet parents - THANKS GUYS!

The Fab Four, we're relieved we all made it! Everyone did so great.

Day One

All right everyone, I am doing it. I'm going to run the Top of Utah half-marathon in August. Today was officially "day one" of my training schedule. To those of you who are marathoners, I applaud you, because just doing half will be the hardest thing I've ever done. But I'm excited! So cheer me on and if you want to run with me, please do! I'm pretty sure Lynsie's already on board. Yeah!
