Take the stairs

Here are the stairs out of the the Lexington Ave/63rd Street station. In an effort to put some physical activity back into my daily life, I've started taking the stairs out of the subway. This is an especially big accomplishment at my station!

The first set: four flights.

Set number two: three flights.

Set numero tres: three flights.

The final set: three more flights!

Bringing the grand total to: 13 flights of stairs. We'll count it as my morning workout. (If only it lasted more than 3 or 4 minutes, it might make more of a difference...) I still feel powerful taking the stairs, striding past all the people waiting in line to cram onto the escalator. Yeah!

Holy cow! Good for you!! I never did that many subway stairs if I could avoid it, especially on the way to work! I did once do a station with about that many stairs with a stroller (escalators broken!) but that was definitely not by choice ha!

AHHH! That's a lot of stairs! That's my worst nightmare with the stroller.

Got to love the stairs. After all they have made many a piece of fittness equipment to try and copy them, and yet, the actual stairs themselves always work you harder. You Go Girl!! Every step counts towards a healthy heart and strong legs.

I love this subway station. It's always bizarre to see how deep underground this one is. Good workout indeed.

Ditto on Sharla's comment--ALL OF IT! Your heart and lungs are gonna thank you for a very long time. (Another reason not to lug your big-n-fancy camera with you to work, right?!?) I am very impressed!

Fyi, if you and Klane ever end up living in Europe (either through his work or once you make it as a superstar photographer), you will be thankful for all this subway "stair experience"--trust me! For instance in London, you have to schlep all your luggage up and down the Tube stairs because there are few, if any, elevators or escalators at most stations. (In other words, take a cab from airport to hotel and back!) Same is true for many other European cities.

Way to go, Angie! I took the stairs most of the time, but I think I'd surely have passed on 13 flights. I'd definitely be one of the lazy people in that line waiting for the escalator.
