the tyra show

We had the most... interesting and fun experience at the Tyra Banks show this week. Casey got us tickets and it was so fun and crazy!

I was mostly surprised by how fake it was. After getting us all seated on the set (front row!!), they filmed the audience doing different reactions. They told us our reactions could be inserted into multiple shows over the whole season.

"Okay, now you're surprised. Ready, NOW."
And they filmed us being surprised for a few seconds, then,
"Now you're really excited, pretend Tyra just walked in, stand up and go crazy!"
"Okay, now everyone nod like you agree with something that was just said."
"Now shake your heads no."
"Okay, bigger head shake, like you really disagree."

It was so odd. Finally Tyra came out and acted like a diva with her tiny waist and huge eyes and wig (probably). We acted ultra interested and surprised and delighted and whatever else they wanted us to be for the camera. It was kind of tiring! But the whole thing was just such an experience. You know?

Afterward we went to Shake Shack. Nothing like a Shackburger, I tell ya. Every time I eat there I am again surprised by how good it is and realize again that it is actually not as overrated as I sometimes assume. All in all, it was such a fun afternoon!

no way! thats so funny. i didn't know it was so fake like that. i guess its no surprise really, i remember american idol being somewhat similar with signs that would tell us when to scream and be quiet... but other than that it was pretty much the same as on TV. thats so weird that videotaped you guys doing reactions when nothing was going on. ha! what was her show about when you guys went?

hahaha! That is awesome.

We didn't even talk about this last night.

Now shake your head like you really disagree.

So I'm currently laying in bed with my laptop on my lap and what show's on while reading this post? America's Next Top Model. I love that you went to her show. I want to punch her face in but love ANTM! For the record, I would've totally gone too:) Remember...smile with your eyes, ha ha, love ya!!

Oh yeah, Tyra is totally fake! It's so different than a taping for something like Martha! (Which was really fun, and that was a taping we loved.)

And now I want a Shackburger. In-N-Out is great and all but sometimes I just miss the shack...

Haha, I'm surprised but not at all surprised at the same time. Oh Tyra...
Hey, check your food blog; I need some advice.

Oooh yes. This confirms how I already feel about Tyra. If she loved herself anymore, I don't know, the world would explode.
I do love ANTM, minus the Tyra.
Angie, you look so pretty. Always.

Dayna, the show was kind of a dumb theme, it was on how men and women respond differently to flirtation and compliments and to being told "You're so hot." Kind of weird. They had a 'game show' type thing at the end where audience members they hand-selected before the taping came up and answered questions (boys vs girls) about turn-ons and turn-offs for the opposite sex. It wasn't a very juicy episode. I've only seen part of her show once or twice and it seems like it can get a lot more controversial/trashy/interesting than what our show topic was. Haha.

Calee, I responded on your blog! Hope it helps!

Wow! that is so funny that they pre-taped all those reactions! I watched a little Tyra when Max was a newborn, it seems like she always brought in how SHE was a SUPER
MODEL, BUT felt ugly and had an abusive boyfriend . . .etc. when she's trying to comfort some young teenager, like that is really going to make them feel better? I don't know. I do like ANTM though!

Totally crazy....and funny Ang! I was just laughing....and shaking my head with disappointment while reading this post about Tyra. I have never been a fan of Tyra anyway. I don't know why...I guess it's just that she just kinda bugs me...ya know?....like she doesn't seem really genuine. Anyway, I would have totally got a KICK out of going to that taping! I think I would have done the opposite though! Like when they asked to shake your head in disbelief...I would have smiled and nodded like crazy!!! LOL! And in stead of cheering and acting all excited! I would have just stared with a totally discusting look on my face...like watching someone pick their nose or something! haha! Oh, silly! Well, I bet it was so fun and a funny memory! I'm hungry now after you talked about eating at shackburger...mmmmmmmmm!

You should go to other shows and compare. that was very interesting. I have only watched her show when I have been at the gym and the TV is on that channel. Very interesting!

How crazy and fun! Now's the time to visit some other shows, if you can. Getting tickets to NYC shows that actually coordinate with vacation itineraries can be next to impossible!

This was so hilarious, but I am not surprised. So not surprised. My little sister is in love with The Tyra Show. I, for one, cannot stand it. All the time I tell her about how fake it all seems- Tyra and her hair, the audience, even the guests. She always objects with the same old, "Morgan, you're just jealous because Tyra is so powerful and inspirational." Yeah. Those are her exact words. And then I laugh. I am so going to show this to her. Thanks!
