Things that amuse me on the subway...

This is a phenomenon which occurs in all New York City subway stations. People constantly lean out of the crowd to peek up the tunnel and see if the train's coming. (As if it's going to make any difference in when the train actually comes.) I find it quite humorous to just watch them do it, though (Whack-A-Mole comes to mind) so I took a video one morning.

Don't you just want to start bopping them with a giant padded mallet?!
(Let me be fair and tell you that I am guilty of tunnel-peeking myself, from time to time.)

Another recent video from the subway, here's my sly attempt at recording this guy's performance without anyone noticing me doing it.

He was a really good singer and pounded this great beat on the subway door with his hands and feet. I think he should try out for American Idol. :)

Thats cool, I bet your never bored. It's funny how the lady by him begins to move her head like "mmhmm, thats right" towards the end. Haha!

If he's going to take advantage of an audience trapped in a subway car, at least he is a decent singer. That could've been bad, but I'm sure you see all kinds.
The tunnel peeking is hilarious to me. I love people.

That first one is hilarious. I love it. I must be a Utahn through and through because that singing on the subway seems weird to me. I can't imagine breaking into song on a quiet train. Although he was good :)

That first one is too funny! I used to think that I was the only person in the world who didn't understand the reason why people do that. It serves no purpose whatsoever. I once knew a guy who got his school project run into by a train because he was doing that. Guess what I told him when he told me the story? "Serves you right!" And I still don't think it will ever make sense to me.

It's a good thing that that guy could sing well. I've heard too many awful subway singers. The worst is when they can't carry a tune and they happen to be singing something completely inappropriate. You definitely got lucky that time!

I love that you're sneaky and get all of these fun videos to share. Thanks for the entertainment!

Morgan, oh my gosh I am laughing so hard that someone actually had a train hit something they were holding. I wish I had been there. That would be so funny. And I would've told him it served him right, too. ;)

Yes there are a lot of bad subway performers, which is why I thought this guy was worth filming. He was exceptional! (Almost as good as the electric violinist... almost.) :)

I love it--Whack-A-Mole! That's perfect! Yeah, there's almost always something entertaining on a NYC train or on the platform.

I love how most of the passengers act completely oblivious to the guy singing... so funny!

I'm a tunnel-peeker myself.. i admit it ;) It is a funny concept though. My husband is the worst!

Yeah, we're back here until June. He is finishing up school and then we go back west permanently. Its nice being back, but we're on the east side.... we've been west siders for years, so its different. we like it though. I'm sure we'll see you around.

People watching is the best! I love the tunnel peeker video, and I agree--that man can sing! I'm always so impressed with how talented street/subway performers can be. Way to go with the sly video recording :-)
